If you are having problems paying your rent, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible. Rent arrears are ‘priority debts’. This means that if you do not pay your rent, there is a risk of losing your home.
We are committed to helping you stay in your home.
LHA have recruited a Financial Support Officer so that we can focus on preventing customers from becoming homeless due to debt or problems managing money. Contact us on 0116 257 6716.
Tackling money problems means doing some or all of the following things:
- Maximising your income, for example, making sure you claim all the benefits you are entitled to. LHA’s Financial Support Officer will be able to find out how much housing benefit or council tax benefit you may be entitled to.
Write down all your income and expenses – then see how much you can afford to pay each creditor (a person or organisation you owe money to) (please use the LHA Income Expenditure Form below)
- Make a list of all your debts and put them in order of priority
- Negotiate affordable repayments with people you owe money to. If you would like help or assistance with this please contact us on 0116 257 6716.
- Consider seeking advice from a debt advice agency. We have compiled below a set of links that may be useful.
Most importantly, talk to us. Try to reach an agreement that you can afford to pay off your arrears.
Our professional, trained staff can help you with your rent and debt problems and we will work with you on a course of action to resolve any problems that you might be having.
