We want to make your move as smooth as possible whether you’re moving into an LHA home or leaving one.
When you know you’re moving:
- Tell the electricity, gas and water companies
- Get your cooker disconnected and connected by a qualified electrician or gas engineer
- Tell the council tax office
- Tell the housing benefit office (if you’ve been receiving housing benefit)
- Tell the benefits agency (if you claim any other benefits)
- Transfer your TV licence
- Redirect your post
Home contents insurance
We strongly advise you to take out home contents insurance. This would cover you against damage to personal belongings, carpets, furniture and other household contents and decorations, if you had a fire or flood.
It would also cover you against a break-in or damage from a neighbouring property.
We can provide details of a contents policy offered in association with the National Housing Federation called My Home which has been designed for people in housing association homes, and offers affordable premiums.
Contact your office or our customer service team for details.
Settling in
When you move to a new area it can be difficult to find your way around and access all the services you want.
We can help because we know the areas well and have good contacts – just contact your nearest office for advice.
